Clearly indicate clinical reason for testing provide the following information: differential diagnosis, site of specimen, and clinical information.
Methodology
Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)
Specimen Requirements
Information on collection, storage, and volume
Specimen
Slides; formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue block, or unstained slides sectioned from tissue block. Precut slides from paraffin blocks in 4-5 micron sections.
Volume
3-4 unstained slides cut to 4 microns thick, air-dried overnight; 0.2 cm x 0.2 cm x 0.2 cm tissue.
Storage Instructions
Store slides and tissues at room temperature.
Causes for Rejection
Broken or dirty slides; excessive cellular debris or stained slides; frozen specimen; decalcified specimens
Collection
Tissue should be fixed in 10.0% neutral buffered formalin. The optimal fixation time for tissue is 6-48 hours. Do not decalcify. Store tissue specimens at room temperature (20-23.5° C). Use cold pack for transport. Be sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen during transport.
