CPT Dependent on specific testing performed

Test Details

Cancer Type

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST)

Technology Used

IHC, Molecular

Turnaround Time

4-21 days

Use

Full diagnostic workup for gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) including IHC and molecular analysis.

Test Includes

IHC and molecular analysis directed by a pathologist; includes c-KIT (CD117), CD34, DOG1, desmin, SMA, S100 by IHC. If tumor is positive for c-KIT or DOG1 expression by IHC, c-KIT gene mutation analysis will be performed. If no mutation is detected in exons 9, 11, 13, and 17 of the c-KIT gene, PDGFRA gene mutation analysis and BRAF gene mutation analysis will be performed.

Methodology

IHC , PCR

Specimen Requirements

Information on collection, storage, and volume

Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue block with corresponding H&E

Volume

10-μM sections and a matching H&E reference slide; 0.2 cm x 0.2 cm x 0.2 cm tissue with >50% tumor

Container

Slides or blocks

Storage Instructions

Store specimen at room temperature (20-23.5° C). Use cold pack for transport. Be sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen during transport.
